Immediate imprisonment of the accused of “Mensalão”

 

     For those readers who follow this Blog away from Brazil, the word “Mensalão” refers to the latest corruption scandal that has happened in this country.

     I want to share two ideas with you:

     A political issue: even considering all negotiations and political interests for the accused to serve their terms, in this moment, either in custody or on license, or even providing services to the community, it’s impossible to deny that this convicting experience can bring Brazilians not only the hope for a more serious and ethic nation, but motivation to keep manifesting and searching for continuous improvement as well.

     And an emotional issue: In psychology we say that one can only grow up if he/she breaks off his/her role as victim and takes full responsibility for what he/she has accomplished. As the honorable deputy Roberto Jefferson said once “I don’t regret anything”.  I believe this is the belief of most of the accused in question.

    That means, even if they don’t understand the importance of taking responsibility for what they did, Brazilian people are being given opportunity for growth, as long as they also leave  their role as victims behind  and assume the position of coauthors of  this nation success.
